The Academic Core Buildings Project consists of three new buildings, which replace three aging structures from the original Fremont campus. These buildings will house classrooms, laboratories, a new library, as well as offices and conference rooms totaling 188,000 square feet. Each of the buildings focuses on a particular academic discipline.
Building One, the Science Center, has 13 new science labs and prep rooms. Building Two, the Music and Visual Arts Center, holds a recital hall and band room, multiple practice rooms and a state of the art recording studio for the music department. The facilities for visual arts programs include a photography lab, and four studios for ceramics and sculpture; drawing and painting; design; and interior design.
The two-story Learning Commons in Building Three holds the library / learning resource center, tutoring centers, and learning labs for Communications, English and Math. Twenty new general classrooms and two tiered lecture halls will be distributed throughout all three buildings, as well as offices and meeting rooms and six new passenger elevators.
A groundbreaking for the Academic Core Buildings took place in April 2016 with a projected occupation date of 2019.

Ohlone College Academic Core Giving
Since 1967, Ohlone College has been a key player in the economic and social vitality of the Tri-Cities, Bay Area, and beyond. Over 375,000 students have walked through these doors, and every year we award almost 1,500 degrees and certificates to students well-prepared to spread their impact across our communities. Ohlone College now ranks among the top few community colleges in California for awarding degrees and certificates, and in the top five for transfer to four-year universities.
As a result of our successes, the communities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City passed Measure G in November 2010 to fund capital improvements which will prepare Ohlone College for the next generations of bright minds. The most exciting portion of the Measure G projects is the Academic Core - a set of three brand new buildings in the center of the Fremont campus. These new facilities are the result of a rigorous facilities master planning process, and every facet of design is focused on increasing student learning and outcomes. Construction of the Science Building, Arts Building, and Learning Commons was completed in 2019, and opened for classes in January 2020.
Below are just a few of the Academic Core’s exciting features that will continue to push the already high standard of education that Ohlone College offers. We invite you to contact us for more information on its advancements, and we would love to give you a tour of its unique design.
